Darkside - Melancholia of a Dying World

From the name of this album, I had expected a more depressing band. Darkside surprised me; they are actually a fairly technical Death Metal outfit, and sporadically kind of speedy at that. However, sometimes they do slow it down and that’s when their vast skill really comes to the front. Towards the end of the first track, “Deadly,” there is a slow atmospheric passage with a guitar solo woven through it that would do Steve Harris and Adrian Smith proud. If every second of this album were that good, it would be flawless. As it stands, there are some things that could use a touch of work, but considering that this was recorded in 1994 (and just now seeing the light of day here in the US), I would think that Darkside have probably perfected their sound by now, and I’m very anxious to hear their next release.

This album Margaret Aitken, the great story of Balwearie witches. After pleading guilty under torture, the Commission pointed out that witch witches throughout the country in exchange for their life hunter aid offered. During the four-month period, after the Aitken Commission has been identified by his was visited several parts of Scotland and detained a number of people put to the test and burned at the stake. Aitken is finally driven to madness by guilt and haunting looks of my brain can not be killed by the hands of innocent girls. She has proven to be a fraud and is burned in the game itself. (Our interpretation of this story)

I saw this yesterday (12/28/15) and I didn’t want to believe it. Lemmy and Motorhead played a large role in my ill-spent youth and even though I knew it wasn’t possible, I thought that Lemmy would always be there. He lived fast and hard, just like his music. He was an inspiration to countless people and Metal as we know it wouldn’t be the same without him. He was a true legend. His Iron Fist shook the world and changed it forever. Rest in peace, brother Lemmy. You will never be forgotten.
